कराईकल पुलिस के मुताबिक, महिला को बाला से जलन होती थी, जिसने उसकी बेटी को दूसरे स्थान पर धकेलते हुए कक्षा में टॉप किया था। बाला अपने पिता राजेंद्रन और मां मालती के साथ कराईकल की नेहरू कॉलोनी में रहता है। पुलिस ने बताया कि विक्टोरिया सहयारानी शनिवार को स्कूल पहुंची और लड़के को कोल्ड ड्रिंक भेंट की थी। घर पहुंचने के बाद लड़के को लगातार उल्टी होने लगी और उसने माता-पिता से कहा कि उसे विक्टोरिया ने उसे कोल्ड ड्रिंक पिलाई है।
लड़के के माता-पिता उसे तुरंत अस्पताल ले गए, लेकिन उसकी जान नहीं बच पाई। पोस्टमॉर्टम रिपोर्ट से पता चला कि कोल्ड ड्रिंक में जहर मिला हुआ था और जानबूझकर बाला को मारने के लिए दिया गया था। विक्टोरिया सहयारानी को न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट की अदालत में पेश किया गया और न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया।
